The Order Sons of Italy in America, Glen Cove Lodge No. 1016 (N.Y.) was initiated in 1920, the first OSIA lodge founded on Long Island, N.Y. Records (1924-1988) include correspondence (1948-1955), members' dues payments (1928-1933), financial ledgers (1924-1926, 1940-1969), certificates of illness (1930-1942), various by-laws and ritual books, officers' lists (1980-1988), minutes of the Glen Cove Benevolent Association (1939-1953), dues payment records (1939-1952). Also included are New York OSIA Grand Convention papers (1952-1971), as well as officer lists and reports.

A fraternal and mutual benefit organization, OSIA was founded in New York City in 1905 by Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro. The New York Grand Lodge was chartered in 1911, the first of twenty-two grand lodges. During the early years, it was the largest of the grand lodges. The New York Grand Lodge reached its zenith in 1925, when membership was about 30,000.
